OMEGA SEAMASTER CHRONEMETER GRADE Vintage Stainless Gents Auto Watch 1958 RARE
A fabulous Omega Seamaster gentlemans’ stainless steel automatic chronometer grade watch manufactured some 67 years ago in c1958. In great overall condition, this watch is extremely rare and highly collectible. It has an extra large Hippocampus emblem on the back of the case which is hardly ever seen and it houses a chronometer grade movement, used in Constellation models but rarely seen in a Seamaster. To the best of my knowledge this model was only produced from 1957 to 1958. In all of the years I have been collecting watches, this is only the second chronometer grade Seamaster model I have managed to acquire. The case and dial present very well and the cal. 505 automatic, 24 jewel chronometer movement is running strongly and keeping time. The watch is signed four times, on the case, dial, movement and crown. Please scroll down to see more photographs and details and send a message if you have any questions. Dial : finished in satin silver with an inner minutes chapter and hours marked by silver coloured batonsand luminous dots. The dial is signed “Omega Automatic Chronometre Officially Certified Seamaster” and bears the Omega symbol. The hands are in good shape and the crystal is clean and clear. The dial looks to have been restored at some time as I would expect to see patination on a dial of this age. Case : stainless steel with the large Hippocampus emblem on the back cover. The case measures approximately 35 mm across, excluding the signed crown and 43 mm from lug to lug so it is a good size case for a 1950’s vintage watch. The case is signed Omega on the inside of the back cover. It is in very good condition, showing the inevitable light signs of use over the years but absolutely no signs of abuse, dents or scratches of any significance that I could see to point out to you. Movement : Omega high grade cal. 505, 24 jewel automatic movement. 500, a lower grade 17 jewel movement was also used in Seamaster models at this time. The serial number on the movement dates the watch to 1958. It is running strongly and keeping time. Strap : new generic good quality stitched and lightly padded brown leather strap. Alternatively I will undertake any repairs that are necessary if the watch is damaged or if in any other way differs significantly from the description. If I have not stated that the watch has been serviced, you may wish to have this work done, particularly if you intend to wear the watch on a daily basis. On request, I can provide you with details of independent watchmakers to whom you can send your watch for servicing. I provide comprehensive details of my watches, including very clear photographs taken with a high resolution macro lens which shows detail not visible to the naked eye. I also invite you to ask questions if there is anything else you need to know. Please take care to consider the dimensions of the watch case as if it is a gentlemans’ Art Deco rectangular vintage watch, they were made significantly smaller than contemporary watches. Please do not expect quartz accuracy from a vintage watch. In the 1940’s/1950’s the accepted timekeeping tolerance for a new 17 jewel manual watch was within three minutes a day. All of my watches are professionally inspected and tested before sale and if they are not running smoothly and keeping reasonable time I have them serviced and/ or have any other work undertaken that is needed to ensure the watch is in running condition. Please also note that I provide no guarantee that my watches are waterproof. I would always strongly recommend keeping any vintage well away from moisture.
