1976 OMEGA Vintage Mens Full Size Rare 1310 “Megaquartz” Watch – Stainless Steel. Omega’s First In-House Quartz Movement. A rare model, it has a classic yet elegant retro look to it. It is a prime example of a classic original 70’s era Omega, built in the early days of what would become the quartz explosion. Powering the watch is Omega’s very first in-house quartz movement, the caliber 1310 Megaquartz. Not only was the movement Omega’s first in-house quartz movement, it was also the first Swiss electronic caliber to be produced in larger numbers. While collectors know that mechanical watches are prized above quartz ones in collecting circles, this is a quartz watch to be fully appreciated. Besides its historical significance, both for horology and for the world at large, where quartz watches are still the most widely worn watches by far, it is unusually high quality and impressive quartz movement that earns it its “Mega” name. Despite the economic pressure brought-on by the quartz revolution, Omega maintained a lofty standard, and built an innovative and high-quality movement. It was not entirely a cost reduction undertaking – while it doesn’t have some of the decoration and finishing of a mechanical movement, it is filled with an intricate assemblage of plates and wheels not commonly seen in today’s quartz watches. And it was designed to be extremely accurate and surpass the other quartz movements of its day. And it also was equipped with an improved time-zone for easy changing of the date and time-zone and seconds adjustment system. We are pleased to offer it in gorgeous fully original condition. It is 100% original down to the signed Omega crystal and even the waterproofing seal! It presents as a 9.5 out of 10. Our photos couldn’t begin to do it justice. Its full size 37mm case presents as mint. Its untouched original dial is also mint. And its movement is functioning very well. A Master Watchmaker has just installed a new battery and performed any needed servicing on the watch. For the finishing touch we have equipped it with a brand new calfskin leather strap making it ready for immediate enjoyment. Don’t miss the chance to own this important part of Omega’s history and Swiss quartz movement development. Timepiece’s Finer Points. Silver with steel baton.
