Vintage OMEGA Automatic SEAMASTER CAL. 565 STUNNING STAINLESS STEEL. PLEASE READ BELOW AND CHECK THE PHOTOS. ———————————————- We are collectors and sell antique and vintage collectible stuff – unique items that have history, and may show signs of this – it is part of their charm. We try to describe any obvious faults as truthfully as we can. However, as most of our items are “x” years old, they will often bear the traces of a previous life. Buyers please note that this elegant and rare item is a vintage classic mechanical item that may have unexpected issues and not function as a brand new item. Please allow +/- of a few seconds up to 2 minutes per day for all Automatic vintage watches. For hand winding pure mechanical it could be more. Although, this item works as described above and keeps good time for its age, with no service history available, we recommend regular servicing to maintain good function and protect your investment. Battery watches so far are the most accurate ones, but there is something really, really special in mechanical watches that attract people more than battery ones. Our most popular unique watches have reached up to 140 watchers for 10 days auctions. This could be very tricky, because what you see on pictures WILL NOT BE what you will receive. However, you have got 30 days for most of the retailers to return your watch that arrived and the box was not like new, or the watch wasn’t shine as it should be, or not keeping good time. IMPORTANT TO KNOW, IS THAT YOU NEED TO STATE/ WRITE DOWN THE REASON FOR THE RETURN. This is SAD practice, BECAUSE THE RETAILER WILL ADVERTISE THE SAME WATCH AGAIN AND SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. ALL THIS UNTIL SOMEONE SAYS THAT THE WATCH HAS AN ISSUE. BUT this is not finished yet. There is always a risk to send watches via post because they can get damaged on the way to go or back or less likely to get lost. IT’S ALWAYS LESS HASSLE AND THEY ARE MORE HELPFUL, BECAUSE IT’S ABOUT THEIR ITEM, SO YOU WOULDN’T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. However, even then, there is no guarantees of what has happened to the watch since it has been serviced. THAT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NOW A DAYS MECHANICAL WATCHES AND VINTAGE ONES IS THAT THE NOW A DAYS ONES HAVE SLIGHTLY MORE OPTIONS, LIKE CHANGING THE TIME ONLY BY MOVING THE HOUR HAND. If you type on Google ETA Mechanisms this is what you’ll see below: ETA movement is incorporated by a majority of watch companies. The Swatch Group, ETA’s parent company, is reducing the number of movements it supplies to competing companies. There is nothing wrong with this ETA business, we are just informing you that ibranding is just marketing that attracts different kind of Buyers. A few points why: any watch with a pop up/pull out Crown, CANNOT BE Guaranteed 100% to be ANY KIND OF WATER RESISTANT Watches with Screw up/down crown are most of the time 10ATM or above for diver watches. Those Watches ONLY COULD BE WATERPROOF/ Water-Resistant the other important point is that you cannot proof how much pressure you put to your watch, because it doesn’t depend just on how deep you have gone under the water (10ATM is 100m), but it also depends on how much additional pressure you put by moving your hand under the water about the shower or just splashing water on your watch. In case watch hasn’t started ticking, simply shake it or just tap it gently in order to get a little support to the spring where watch hasn’t been Wound up/Worn for some times: a few days/weeks/months. We/Watch Sellers in Shops have struggled to get some Brand New Watches Started, due to they haven’t been Worn/Wound Up for a while, that’s all Normal to happen In case a watch hasn’t started yet after you followed above little instruction, simply shake it or just tap it gently on the glass in order to get a little support to the spring. When you wear your watch and keep winding it up (if a wind up watch), it should be all be fine. Automatic mechanism: you can wind them up as much as you want, you cannot Overwound an Automatic watch. However, after you SET UP THE TIME FIRST AND THEN WIND UP YOUR WATCH (up to 12-14). IT SHOULD START WORKING STRIGHT AWAY IF YOU DON’T USE YOUR VINTAGE WATCH ON DAILY BASIS, THEN YOU MIGHT NOT NEED TO SERVICE IT REGULARLY, BUT JUST TO WIND IT UP EVERY MONTH in order to keep the main spring functional. However, even if you don’t wear your vintage watch, the viscosity number of the oil drops down through the years. MANY PEOPLE, EVEN WATCHMAKERS, DON’T KNOW THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO USE UP TO DATE OILD. SYNTHETIC OIL/ OTHER KIND OF OIL FOR MECHANISMS HAS EXPIRY DATE. OIL HAS AN EXPIRY DATE FOR A REASON WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR YOUR MECHANISM. IF A WATCHMAKER USES EXPIRED OIL, IT’S EQUALLY BAD AS IF YOU USE OLD OR WRONG OIL VISCOSITY NUMBER FOR YOUR CAR It’s advisable that up to 10 years your mechanical watch should be oiled/serviced. Lubrication to your mechanism reduces the friction on moving parts that causes them to wear out. Your watch might not stop working if not serviced/oiled, but further action might need be taken in the nearby future, in order to prevent of permanent damage. Most of the time Antique/Vintage watches are mechanical, so repairs might not be cheap (it depends of the Brand and Value of your Watch). If your problem is serious, it’s most likely you’ll need part replacement of non-standard parts (unlike most late model watches). Antique/Vintage watches should not be dropped. Antique watches are generally NOT waterproof. This is because waterproofing was not in general production until the middle of the 20th century for most watches. Therefore you should protect your antique watch from exposure to moisture. ALL OUR VINTAGE WATCHES ARE WATER PROOF UNTESTED – WE DON’T RECOMMEND YOU TRY IF THEY ARE WATER RESISTANT. If your watch becomes wet it should be dried off quickly. Carefully open all covers and use a hair drier to blow dry the movement, dial, covers, crown. This will reduce the amount of rust. If your watch becomes wet with any kind of salt water you should immediately immerse or spray your watch with fresh (no-salt) water to remove all the salt from the works before drying the watch completely. Any salt left in the watch will combine with moisture in the air to rust metal components of the movement, case etc. When adjusting the hands of your watch, move them in a clockwise direction only. Counter-clockwise adjustments may damage the movement, so pease ONLY use it to adjust the minutes, if necessary, but in general try to avoid it. Be careful and gentle when adjusting the movement speed (faster or slower). Don’t make sharp movements, and don’t touch other components in the movement especially the pendulum mechanism. If the watch is dirty – allow the watch to run down, don’t wind it again until you have it serviced by a qualified watch repair expert. Dust will absorb and remove important lubricants and cause the movement pieces to wear down. To clean the case, dial and crystal you should use a cloth that does NOT leave fibers as these may get caught up in the movement. Check with your Watch repair expert to get an appropriate cloth. Keep your antiques watch away from magnets. Strong magnetic fields may affect the accuracy of your watch since some vintage watches were made with iron based components in the movement. Most Cases and Covers are made by delicate components and will not handle abuse well. The watch should not be shaken, beaten, or stressed. NB Unless y a watch has an obvious fault, nobody can tell you when a vintage watch is for servicing. All depends on the mechanism (automatically/manual winding). Also the age, and the frequency you’ve worn it, as well as of course if there was any issues along the way. HOWEVER, WE HAVE GOT WATCHES THAT HAVEN’T BEEN SERVICED FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND STILL WORKING GREAT. DO NOT WIND UP ANY WATCH WHILE ON YOUR WRIST, due to hair related registered issues. PLEASE ALWAYS HAVE YOUR WATCH IN HAND WHEN YOU WIND IT UP. NB Winding any mechanical watch TIGHT may break the mainspring, please avoid it. Do not wind a hand winding watch hard but gently (20 – 40 times roughly), it depends on the mechanism, or when was the last time you have wound it up, so take it easy you started feeling the tension when winding up. It also depends on how long your winding grip is and your sense NOT TO WIND IT UP TILL THE LAST POSSIBLE WAY. 99% OF ALL SECOND HAND WATCHES ON SALE ONLINE HAVE NO SERVICE HISTORY AVAILABLE with a new strap and nice polish, any Watch NO LONGER looks like a Second Hand Watch. However, that doesn’t mean that watches are not going to working well for the years to come. There is never guarantees with Vintage Watches, especially those over 40 – 50′ Even if a watch is serviced the guarantee is given from 6 months to 1 year. Don’t forget to look at the pictures again on how mechanisms look like and remember, they are made of nearly hundred bits and pieces. Watch mechanisms were invented back in 18th century. We’ve seen their watches, they’ve been on shelf for good few years. It depends of the brand. So it’s a great investment. BEAR IN MIND, SERVICE/POLISHING REALLY DEPENDS ON THE VALUE OF YOUR WATCH and Watchmakers and Polishers know the estimate value. VERY VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW: Sometimes your watch might just need oiling not full service (but this is in case your watch has been recently serviced and the oil has gone for some reason) However, ideally it would be better if full service. Sometimes IF YOUR WATCH IS JUST GAINING OR LOOSING A BIT OF A TIME it might just need your Balance pin to be moved (+) or (-) if a watch is gaining time 10 – 15 min. A day it needs to be demagnetized, if it’s loosing time (10 – 15 min a day) it needs servicing. The difference between Chronograph and Chronometer: – Chronograph has got a few small circles that measure time in seconds minutes and hours as a stopwatch. Chronometer is a watch that has been satisfied for accuracy, bearing in mind that there is no mechanical or automatic watch that is exactly accurate on the dot. Even Chronometer ones, unless they are Brand new, after a few days will be gaining or losing a few seconds. Brand New latest ones as well, but might be in up to a week time. TO SET UP DATE AND DAY WHERE IS APPLICABLE READ BELOW PLEASE: First, pull the crown to second and position which is normally the last position of the Crown, then turn the time till 06:40 – then press the crown back to the case. Then pull the crown up on first position and turn it clockwise or anticlockwise (depends on your watch) and set up the date to the day before the current one. Then pull the crown up to second position and turn the hands until date changes itself to the current one, and continue to advance the time until you set up your current time. Then press back the crown, wind it up a few times and enjoy wearing your watch. If you don’t have a quick set up date, just advance the hands till you reach the date you would like, and then set you the time. PLEASE EVERY TIME YOU FINISH WITH YOUR WATCH SETTINGS, PRESS THE CROWN ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE CASE (for pull up, push back crowns), OR SCREW UP COMPLETELY YOUR CROWN (for Screw up/down Crowns), to secure your watch of splash water/rein. However, as we have mentioned already, we do not guarantee water resistance to any of our Vintage Watches, so please keep them way of water. Our feedback can underpin that P.
