Rare 1940s Omega Square Steel Watch Cal. 23.4 Black and Gilt dial All Original

This is a nice Omega from circa 1940. 23.4, inhouse, hand-winding movement. Case: 25×25 mm all stainless steel case, snap back, acrylic crystal. Dial: gilt dial, 100% original. Condition: movement was serviced a few years ago; it is fully functional and keeps relatively accurate time. This beautiful watch was made in Switzerland, in 1940. The square case design was influenced by the late Bauhaus style, but it is an ageless classic, just look at Nomos Tetra for example! Case was made of stainless steel and measures 25 x 25 mm without lugs (33.5 mm long with lugs). This Omega is very thin for a mechanical watch, 6 mm at the edge of the case 8.5 mm with height of the crystal. Acrylic crystal was replaced some time ago. The winding crown shows signs of wear, but it is original, just like the gilt dial. The black dial with the golden numerals is nicely aged. A dress watch like this has a timeless elegance and allows you to wear it even with suit and tie. The watch is fitted with the less often seen Omega calibre 23.4. This movement has two variations. (central and sub-second ones). 23.4SC was the brand’s first model to feature a central second hand. It is well known from such famous watches like Omega Medicus, Omega Naiad, etc. We have also listed a couple of beautiful, early central second Omegas too, so do not forget to check our other items too! However this particular watch was built with a sub-second cal. 23.4, which is about ten times rarer than its siblings. A true collectors item! Even Omega’s Factory Database lacks this particular model! The watch comes with a brand new, 18 mm wide calf skin strap and an unbranded watch box. The watch is not water-resistant! The watch is not shock-proof! Dropping it accidentally may cause major damage. Please handle with due care.
